NP SERENGETI

The world-famous national park is located 335 km from the city of Arusha (6-8 hours drive to the central area) and stretches north to Kenya and Lake Victoria in the west. It is one of the most famous and largest protected areas in Africa. It has been on the UNESCO list since 1981.

The word Serengeti comes from the Maasai word "Siringit", which means "endless plains".

The area of the park is almost 15 thousand km², which makes it the second largest park in Tanzania. The Serengeti National Park is known for the large migration of about 2.5 million animals that move in search of green pastures and water to survive. During migration, wildebeests, zebras and gazelles travel about 3,200 km and devour 4,000 tons of grass per day. Up to 500,000 young are born during the journey, but only a third survive. Behind them are a lot of predators (lions, cheetahs, caracals and others) and at the end there are scavengers led by hyenas. One herd can stretch up to tens of kilometers during the march.

This park is home to the Big Five (rhinoceros, elephant, leopard, lion and buffalo), more than 500 different species of birds and more than 70 species of animals roam the ground.

The park itself is one of the most popular and most visited in Africa.
